Sister's Rule!!!

For the past week and a half I have had a special visitor!! My sister has been joining me from BC. We have had a fabulous time. Lots of catching up to do (havn't see her in a year). Lots of heart to hearts, lots of girl talk and chit chat. We did nails and went for walks in our beautiful weather while we had it! We went to our local dog show and visited friends. I had to say good bye to my sis this afternoon and as always it was very hard to do. Our visits are never long enough and always too long in between and they take too long to come. I feel very blessed to have you for a sister Nance...it is true .... sisters rule! Can't wait to see you again...hopefully in July!! Love you XOXO!!

Lovin' Spring on the farm!!!

We hope spring is officially here to stay!! That being said...the prairie provinces had sub zero temps this week and got more snow dumped on them....so will it come here??? Hope not!! They can keep it! This week has been gorgeous with temps in the mid 20's. We have been so enjoying the warm weather! Love spring!!!
Very quickly these soft maple trees hide the front of the house once they get their leaves so thought I would get a front shot before hand.

Our rhubarb patch and raspberry canes are lookin' good so hopefully we will get a bumper crop this year!!

My walkway is looking a little bare yet but I can see new growth all over the place in my flower beds...can't wait to see more colour!

My first flowers of spring!!

Even the yorkies are enjoying the warm weather. Cole and Autumn had fiesty game of tug o war yesterday in the sunshine!

I love seeing my animals graze on the pasture. There is something so peaceful and satisfying about it.

Wood Fancier

It seems that possibly the next generation of wood workers is amongst us??? James had made these awsome wood projects in tech class.
How cool is this Canada Goose in flight??

This was last years project. A handy little cabinet that seems to serve as lap top holder and the drawer is great for all the phone chargers. There might just be a little wood working in his blood as Dave's brother owns a furniture factory too.

Upgrade :)

For a long while now we have been in the market for some new furniture. Our current furniture was old and very used having reared 3 kids up on it. So we decided we needed to upgrade some of our furniture. Our old couch was a forest green sectional that was sagging and the cushions were very worn and most of the fabric was completely worn off. We were in Whitby a couple of weeks ago and found a fantastic no tax sale and purchased 2 new leather sofa's and a new kitchen dinette set.

I love, love, love the new sofa's...makes me feel like we have a new room!!! The chocolate brown leather is a very warm look and blends nicely with our hardwood floor! LOVE IT!!!

The dinette set for the kitchen is also a big favourite for me! We chose the pub style meaning that the table is actually counter top height! The finish is black and cherry. There is actually 8 chairs with the set but just havn't gotten them together yet..lol!!!!

Again how it makes the whole room change in appearance. Our old table was an oval pine set with chairs that were a hazzard because they were so woobly! Love it, love it!! Wish we could upgrade more!!!!

Mia

Well...here she is!!! Mia has arrived and is everything I had been told she was! She is sweet and loving and oh so pretty with those blue eyes!
My others mares did the big run with her as soon as she arrived. She is on the bottom of the pecking order for now until she feels at home as far as I can witness. This is common for any new comer, the old girls make it known who is boss!!
Her and Indy are well matched and I hope will be good buddies when they are pastured together for the summer.

Stunning Image

Today we are awaiting the arrival of "Stunning Image" a registered yearling mini filly. She is a Chestnut Pinto with blue eyes. I am told she is quite the love bug and will follow you around for a belly rub.
She is nicely bred with an impressive pedigree and we think she will be nice company for Indy our 2 year old as the other mares will go in with the boys this spring.
We are calling her Mia.

Back in time....

How pleased I was today when I had a "Clock Doctor" come in and clean, oil and service a couple of clocks we had that weren't operating anymore. The first was a grandfather clock that used to belong to my parents. The cabinet was built from wood that my dad cut off the bush on our farm. He dried the wood for many years and had a neighbor built the clock for them. The clock has not run since I have had it. How refreshing it is to hear it chime and remind me of years gone by to a place where that clock used to chime in a home where cherished memories were created.

The second is a wall clock that my dad brought back from Holland after my grandmother died in the late 80's. When my mom sold the farm each of us got a clock and this is the one that I received. It has run up until a few months ago and I really missed it chiming religiously on the hour. How nice it is to go back in time now and again.....

Small signs of spring..finally!!!!

Well finally we are started to see signs that spring is coming!!! After a long cold and snowy winter we welcome the sights of new flowers sprouting, the sounds of birds chirping, and even the dead old grass that we are seeing patches of!! We have had a few mild days but generally temps are cooler that usual for this time of year.

The ducks are busy finding water, any water at all to muck in. They are blissfully happy to play all day in the water after being holed up in their pen all winter.

Of course with all snow that we had this winter it has to melt and go somewhere...our lake (er..field) is completely covered with water...maybe the horses and sheep will take up swimming for a hobby!!
